Karl Kling was named Cleary's interim Director of Athletics at the beginning of 2014. Kling replaces Dan Riggs, who decided to return to retirement. Riggs came out of retirement to help Cleary reintroduce athletics in 2011.
"I think Dan Riggs did a great job of
establishing Cleary athletics,” said Kling. “I am humbled that I have been
asked to take the program from where we currently are - one that has already
produced a national championship - to even greater heights."
Kling is the owner and lead baseball
instructor of the Michigan Sports Academy – Livingston in Howell.
From 2003 to 2005 he was the athletic director at Concordia University in Ann Arbor. As the director of athletics at Concordia he implemented a scholarship program that lead to the increasing the student population from 82 to 146 in one year. He also helped add a golf program and reinstated the cross-country and track and field programs for both men and women.
