BUSINESS EDUCATION AND ART

A Personal Message from Tom Sullivan, President of Cleary University:

It may seem incongruous to some, that a business university would establish and support an art museum. In reality, art is a metaphor for management practice, entrepreneurship, and innovation – to say nothing of product design. In all such endeavors, it is not what the eye sees that counts; it is what the mind is prepared to comprehend. In the words of artist, Paul Klee, 'Art does not reproduce what we see. It makes us see.' And no artist is more adept at making us see, than Arthur Secunda.

Cleary University strives to provide an attractive, engaging and “challenging” learning environment, which stimulates originality and creativity; develops natural curiosity; broadens perspective; and encourages interpretation through the search for meaning. Art is a catalyst for teaching and learning those important skills, which are keys to a successful business career.

THE ARTIST AS ENTREPRENEUR

The successful artist also is an entrepreneur and all that it encompasses (marketing, business development, public relations, management, contract negotiation, sales, and so on). Equally important, the successful artist is an example of success in “product design”.
