BS Corporate Accounting

Program Features
Cleary's Corporate Accounting Bachelor of Science degree prepares the graduate for a career in accounting within industry or business.  In addition to a strong foundation in financial and managerial accounting, the curriculum also includes courses in management, finance, economics, business law and ethics, marketing, statistics, operations management, and communications. The skills acquired in these courses prepare the graduate to meet the professional challenges of the corporate business environment.  Graduates are equipped with tools for intelligent analysis, planning, controlling, and decision making.  Students take the majority of their accounting major courses in the classroom, and their core courses online.  The Corporate Accounting cohort is unique in that students take both accounting major and core courses together.  Accounting major courses in the program include:  Intermediate Accounting II and III, Cost Accounting I and II, Introduction to Taxation, Accounting Information Systems, Advanced Financial Accounting I, and Governmental/Non-profit Accounting.

Career Benefits
Corporate accountants deal with the management of assets, liabilities, costs and cost control, taxes, and business planning.  The BS in Corporate Accounting degree program prepares the graduate for a career as a corporate accountant, financial manager, controller, and business consultant.  Career opportunities in accounting are abundant, with projections for jobs to grow steadily through 2012.  An increase in the number of businesses, changing financial laws and regulations, and increased scrutiny of company finances will drive growth.

Professional Certification
The curriculum for the Corporate Accounting BS is closely aligned with the content of the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exam, which is administered by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).  The CMA designation provides an objective measure of an individual's knowledge and competence in the field of management accounting.  There are four parts to the exam:  Part 1 - Business Analysis, Part 2 - Management Accounting and Reporting, Part 3 - Strategic Management, and Part 4 - Business Applications.  To be certified, one must pass all four parts of the CMA exam, be a member of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), hold a bachelor's degree, and have two years of professional work experience in management accounting and/or financial management.

Cleary University is currently the only school in Michigan to offer instructor-led courses using the IMA's CMA Learning System.  To learn more about these courses, please visit the program Web site at www.cleary.edu/cma.
