OVERVIEW

The factors that contribute to a hospitable experience are varied, and people skills remain at its core. However it all begins with a solid understanding of business: critical thinking skills, collecting and interpreting data, understanding best business practices and issues, and the effective communication skills necessary to provide good customer service and satisfaction. Students not only gain the education necessary to begin a career in the hospitality field, but also have the opportunity to pursue additional educational opportunities in the hospitality or management fields. This a dynamic and growing industry, as both domestic and international business travel and tourism are driving the demand for effective, efficient hospitality managers and event planners.

THE PROGRAM

The associate’s degree in Business (ABA) with a hospitality concentration provides the broad skills necessary for today’s business world. It is designed to enhance individual communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills vital to the business environment. It also prepares students for Cleary BBA baccalaureate degrees. Through a well-balanced curriculum, this associate’s degree program includes courses in marketing, communications, sales and finance management, and teaches key fundamental hospitality practices and principles.

CAREER BENEFITS AND OPTIONS

Students will gain a strong understanding of the hospitality industry and be prepared for employment possibilities and further study. The program enables students to learn by practicing and strategically applying classroom lessons to resolve the daily challenges of an industry based in customer service. Graduates can work in a variety of roles within hotels, sports venues, casinos, travel and tourism, as supervisors, cooks, dining room supervisors, servers, banquet and conference personnel, or storeroom/receiving clerks as they gain the experience necessary to become solid business managers, hospitality administrators, various positions in the event industry, and the food and beverage industry, to name a few.
