Loan Deferments
A deferment is a temporary postponement of a borrower's student loan repayment. A borrower is entitled to defer his or her student loan payments if the borrower meets certain eligibility criteria and requests a deferment.
A borrower must submit a deferment request directly to his or her lender. To apply for a deferment, a borrower should download the appropriate form, complete and sign it, and mail the form to his or her loan holder. Remember that each deferment request must be approved before a borrower's loan payments will be postponed. A borrower should check with his or her lender or the company that services his or her loan for more information.
In-School Deferment Request Form
Students may place their prior student loan in deferment by enrolling at least half time in a degree seeking program. Cleary University defines half-time enrollment as at least 6 credits per term for the undergraduate level and at least 3 credits for the graduate level. Students need to complete sections 1 through 3 and send the Deferment Form to Cleary's Records Department for authorization in section 4. If the student would like Cleary University to mail the request directly to their lender, write the complete address of the lender on the form in section 8; otherwise, Cleary University will send form back to the student for submission.
