Cleary University names Kling head coach for new baseball program
HOWELL – Howell resident Karl Kling has been named the head coach of Cleary University’s new baseball program.
“To be a part of the hometown university is thrilling,” said Kling. “We can create our own history. You don’t get to do that that often.”
“Karl Kling brings to a wealth of baseball knowledge and coaching experience to Cleary,” said Dan Riggs, director of athletics at Cleary University. “We feel that he will establish a quality baseball program.”
Cleary University recently added baseball, softball and lacrosse to its athletic program. Cleary currently has men’s and women’s golf, soccer and cross country. The three new sports will begin play in 2015.
For the past three years, Kling has been the owner and lead instructor of Michigan Sports Academy – Livingston.
His coaching experience includes almost every level of baseball.
In 2012 he served as the pitching coach for Saginaw Valley State University.
From 2003 to 2010 he was the head baseball coach at Concordia University. While at Concordia, Kling served as the baseball chair for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference and also was a member of the Oversight Committee.
Kling also was the head baseball coach at Fowlerville High School for two years.
“At Concordia I didn’t feel like part of the community,” said Kling. “That’s why I started MSA here in Howell. But I really enjoyed college coaching and wanted to get back to it so last year I worked with Saginaw Valley. When Cleary announced that it was adding sports almost two years ago, I kept hoping that baseball would be a part of it. This is an awesome opportunity,”
