SYRACUSE - Cleary University's Elaine Lowe, a freshman from Alpena, won the individual national championship at the United States Collegiate Atheltic Association (USCAA) competition Friday.

Lowe finished the 6K race with a time of 23:07.6, a full 23 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. The field included more than 150 athletes from 17 different schools from across the nation.

Lowe's time helped the Cleary University women's team take fifth place overall.

"It was a whole team performance from our first through our fifth runners," said Sarah Boyle, Cleary University women's cross country coach. "They were relentless out there today and it paid off."

Aleighsha Engisch and Morgan McFaul finished 19th and 21st overall. They finished with times of 26:27.6 and 26:27.9 respectively. Kellie Szewczyk finished in 38th with a time of 27:29.4. Kyndra Palinkas rounded out the Cleary team scoring, finishing 72nd.

"I am so proud of them!," Boyle said. "Elaine has been strong all year and was tough today. She took control of the race from the start. Coming away with individual champion and great team finish is awesome way to cap off the season."
