HOWELL – Ross Payne, a senior from Trenton High School, has signed to play men’s soccer for the Cleary University men’s soccer team.
"Ross is a talented player and we are very pleased to have him join the Cleary Cougars men's soccer program,” said Thomas Greeley, men’s soccer coach at Cleary. “We are looking forward to the contributions that Ross will bring to our team."
"I feel this is a great opportunity to get a good education and also play the sport I love the most,” said Payne, a defender. “Plus, I get to play soccer again with my high school teammate Kyle Gill.”
Payne received all-district honors in 2011 and was all-district honorable mention in 2012. He also played for the Michigan Rush Downriver team.
“I chose Cleary because I want to major in business and they are a business school,” Payne said.
Cleary University reintroduced its collegiate athletic program in 2011 when it formed teams for men’s and women’s golf and cross country. Golf and cross country competed in 2012. Men’s and women’s soccer teams are scheduled to compete in 2013. Cleary is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
