HOWELL – It’s not everyday a coach has the opportunity to sign more than one player from a championship team, but that is what Cleary University men’s soccer coach Thomas Greeley has done.
Greeley signed four players from Frontier International Academy’’s 2013 State Championship team. The players are Mohammed Alfahad, Baleegh Algahim, Yunis Alawdi and Maher Haidan.
"Yunis, Mohammed, Baleegh, and Maher are great additions to our 2013 roster. All of these players are 2012 Michigan State Champions so they know what it takes to win against good competition,” said Greeley. “I am really excited that all four of these students will be joining our program this coming fall."
“It’s a great opportunity to get a great education and play the sport I love the most,” said Algahim, an attack midfielder who had 23 goals and 32 assists for FIA. “Plus I get to play with my high school teammates again: Mohammed Alfahad, Maher Haidan, and Yunis Alawdi.
Algahim received the athlete of the year for FIA and plays club soccer for the Hamtramck Future Stars. He is an honor roll student.
Haidan, a defensive midfielder, had five goals and eight assists for FIA. He also plays for the Future Stars Club soccer team.
“I chose to attend Cleary because of the small classes and because of the teacher/student ratio,” Haidan said.
“Cleary University is one of the top ranked business schools. I am majoring in business management and I know that Cleary is the right school for me,” said Alfahad, a center midfielder for FIA.
Alawdi, a right defender, also played for the Future Stars team.
“Cleary University is unique in that it allows me to study in a prestigious school for my career in business, while still chasing my passion of soccer,” Alawdi said.
Cleary University reintroduced its collegiate athletic program in 2011 when it formed teams for men’s and women’s golf and cross country. Golf and cross country competed in 2012. Men’s and women’s soccer teams are scheduled to compete in 2013. Cleary is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
