HOWELL – Leadership Livingston, the county’s leadership development program, has started a new program for area high school students.
“The program follows the same model as Leadership Livingston,” said Grace Farley, coordinator of the program. “We wanted to give area high school students the opportunity to learn more about their community.”
Leadership Livingston was initiated by Cleary University and the Brighton and Howell Chambers of Commerce in 1992. The program is designed to bring together individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences who have demonstrated a talent for and a commitment to leadership.
Applications for the new youth program are due by August 1, 2013. The program is free, but limited to 20 individuals. Early application is strongly recommended. To apply, visit www.leadershiplivingston.org
“We expect to fill this program,” Farley said. “It is a great opportunity for young people.”
For the youth program, high school students, preferably in their junior year, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, a letter of recommendation, and a completed application, will be considered.
The youth sessions will be once a month beginning in August. The program will run through April of 2014.
Leadership Livingston also is accepting application for the adult program. The adult program is September through May. Applications are due by Sept. 1, 2013.
Area businesses, public and private agencies, and civic and other organizations are asked to identify and support adults with leadership skills and/or potential for the Leadership Livingston program. To insure broad representation of the county, we encourage applicants from business, government, and community services, as well as from the various communities within the county. Individuals may nominate themselves.
All sessions are held at Cleary University in Howell, or at community locations relating to the topic. The adult sessions are usually held on the third Friday of each month, September through May, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
