Cleary University’s Elaine Lowe finished in 35th place out of 243 runners with a time of 19:47 at the Lansing Invitational at Grand Woods Park. The women’s team finished 16 out of 23 teams.
Aleighsha Engisch finished the race with a time of 21:37 (121st place). Morgan McFaul (22:02), Kellie Szewczyk (22:53) and Kyndra Palinkas (26:10) rounded out Cleary's scorers.
Cody Engisch was the top men’s finisher for Cleary. He finished the cross the finish line in 33:33. Jaylan Phillips finished the event in 38:54 while Cleary newcomer Brendan Bachman crossed the line in his first event as a Cougar in 39:52.
"The women ran a tough race. This course had some tight and narrow turns that were tough to manage with this large of a race field,” said Sarah Boyle, women’s cross country coach. “As we move forward, we need to mentally get tougher in the next couple races before nationals. We have to be prepared physically and mentally to race in any conditions that we face on race day."
