Cleary University cross country teams headed to nationals at Syracuse
HOWELL – For the second consecutive year, the Cleary University men’s and women’s cross country teams are headed to the national championship for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) at Syracuse, New York.
"The end of season is always exciting,” said second-year women’s coach Sarah Boyle. “This is the point in the year we have worked hard for. The women have opportunity to place well as a team and some of our girls have a chance to challenge the front of the race. Their determination and perseverance is going to lend to an exciting race."
Both teams will run Friday, Nov. 7. The women race the 6k at 11 a.m. and men race the 8k at noon.
“I am excited to see what happens,” said Boyle.
“Nationals are not just an opportunity to show how much progress we have made, but it is an opportunity to become closer as a team,” said women’s team captain Kellie Szewczyk. “It is an amazing experience and honor to be able to travel out of state to represent our school in a sport we all dedicate so much time and love into.”
"Our team has come together and worked extremely hard this season,” said women’s co-captain Morgan McFaul. “Racing at the national meet gives us the opportunity to represent our school and to compete to the best of our abilities."
