HOWELL – Alex Fischer, a senior at South Lyon High School, has signed a letter of intent to play women’s golf for Cleary University.

"Alex is a very solid all-around player and will help the Cleary University women's golf team,” said Bob Fillips, women’s golf coach for Cleary University.

“I wanted to play golf in college and I really like Cleary,” said Fischer, who said she is interested in corporate accounting.

Fischer led her team to a fifth-place finish in the Division 2 State Championship, carding the lowest score for South Lyon in the two-day event. Fischer played at the varsity level all four years at South Lyon.

"We are very proud of Alex.” said Hazel Fischer, Alex’s mother. “Cleary seems like a nice, comfortable, personable school and we’re excited that Alex has the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the women’s golf program.”

Cleary University reintroduced its collegiate athletic program in 2011 when it formed teams for men’s and women’s golf and cross country. Golf and cross country competed in 2012. Men’s and women’s soccer teams are scheduled to compete in 2013. Cleary is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
