HOWELL – Juan Ramirez-Ortega, a senior from Wyoming Park High School in Grand Rapids, has signed to play men’s soccer for Cleary University.

"Juan is a hard working and committed athlete who has driven himself to get to this level of play,” said Thomas Greeley, men’s soccer coach at Cleary. “We are really happy that Juan will join our squad for the 2013 season and we look forward to the work ethic that he will bring to our University and our team.”

"This is Cleary’s first year with a soccer program,” said Ramirez-Ortega. “I know Coach Greeley wants to be competitive so it’s an honor to be chosen to be part of that.”

Ramirez-Ortega, is a three-year varsity player and is the captain of the high school team this year. He also played for the 18-and-under Grand Rapids Crew club team, where he had the most assists with 12.

“I chose Cleary University because I want a degree in marketing and I believe they can help me reach that goal,” said Ramirez-Ortage.

Cleary University reintroduced its collegiate athletic program in 2011 when it formed teams for men’s and women’s golf and cross country. Golf and cross country competed in 2012. Men’s and women’s soccer teams are scheduled to compete in 2013. Cleary is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
