HOWELL – Allie Newcomb, a senior from Cousino High School in Warren, has signed a letter of intent to play for the Cleary University softball team.
“We found out about Allie while recruiting another athlete, what great luck that was for us,” said Cleary University Softball Coach Tim Bailey. “Everyone I talked with during the recruiting process made the comment ,’Allie is incredibly fast.’ I had the opportunity to see her play and she is incredibly fast. Couple that with a good stick and great glove and we have a double threat offensively and defensively. Adding Allie to an already very quick outfield is going to make it tough for our opponents to find holes in the outfield.”
Newcomb, an outfielder, is a four-year varsity player who helped her team become the MAC Blue Co-Champs. She was captain of the softball team and won the MAC 400 plus batting title last season. She was a 2013 All-District Player and received all-academic honors for softball and volleyball.
Newcomb is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Technological Honor Society.
“I thought Cleary provided me with great opportunities on the field and off,” said Newcomb. “It’s great to be part of Cleary history and be on the first softball team. That is something special.”
“I chose Cleary because it is all business,” Newcomb said.
Cleary University reintroduced its collegiate athletic program in 2011 when it formed teams for men’s and women’s golf and cross country. Cleary’s athletic program also includes: men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, softball and lacrosse. Baseball and softball are scheduled to begin in 2015. Cleary is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
