Counselors push students to apply for scholarships

Finding the right college is a dream for many high school seniors, but trying to fund that dream is a nightmare for some.

Livingston County guidance counselors recommend that seniors apply for as many community-based scholarships as they can to increase their chances of receiving funding.

"They should apply for every single one they qualify for," Brighton High School counselor Liz Johnson said. "I really push them to apply for local scholarships. In terms of competition, you are competing with just the local students. There are 500 students (locally), and in the state, there are 500 schools. They have a great shot at getting a (local) scholarship."
