Meet Our Staff

Jeffrey Bane, Director of Food Service and Dean of Hospitality Programs

Chef Bane leads Cleary University’s Food Services department and Hospitality Academic programs. He has over 25 years of food service experience in hotel and conference centers, resorts, restaurants and culinary instruction all over the United States, Europe, and New Zealand. Jeff has turned his attention to making The Johnson Center the premier banquet space in Livingston County and beyond. Chef Bane is a Certified Executive Chef and Chef Educator with the American Culinary Federation and has won numerous awards and culinary competitions in his career.


Donald Waldenmayer, Executive Chef

Chef Don supervises the kitchen operations and instructs culinary lab classes for Cleary University. As Executive Chef, Don can assist our guests with menu creation, dietary restrictions, as well as oversee preparation for the cuisine for each event. Chef Don has over 40 years of experience catering hundreds of events, including large and small weddings, corporate events, private clubs as well as fine dining experiences. Chef Don is a Certified Executive Chef with the American Culinary Federation and leads our staff in providing exceptional customer service for each and every event.


Heather Hewitt, Food and Beverage Event Manager

Heather has been working to effectively plan and coordinate special functions at The Johnson Center for over 5 years. Her client-first mentality has allowed her to become a trusted event planner for corporate meetings, weddings, baby and bridal showers, as well as community and non-profit fundraisers.  Heather’s familiarity with local organizations and repeat customers helps our clients connect with potential vendors or businesses that may be necessary for any event. Heather will execute your concepts flawlessly while maintaining a pleasant and helpful demeanor to ensure an amazing experience for you and your guests.


Bonnie Szpuk, Banquet Supervisor

As Cleary University’s lead banquet supervisor, Bonnie ensures the rooms, technology, and facilities are set up to the client’s specifications. Bonnie’s experience spans 14 years in the hospitality industry and she brings a recognizable smile to all the events at The Johnson Center. With the new and exciting food service team at Cleary University, Bonnie ensures our guests feel right at home and confident their event will be a success.
