David Castlegrant

Adjunct Faculty

David Castlegrant has been teaching at Cleary University since 1991. He received a BA Ed. from William Paterson College of New Jersey and an MS Administration from Central Michigan University. He retired from full-time teaching in 2014, but continues as an adjunct instructor, teaching the Professional Project (PJT), a two-course sequence that students encounter toward the end of their BBA degree journey.

Each project is unique from the next but usually fit into specific formats that include primary research, feasibility studies, process improvement plans, marketing audits, business plans, or implementation plans. David’s role is to guide students through the project selection process, coach them to push to find more information, and evaluate how they are building the project.

“For 30 years, I have truly enjoyed working with Cleary University students,” he says. “They are motivated to succeed and willing to put in the hard work to reach their goals.”

For the first 20 years of his business career, David Castlegrant was an administrative operations manager for Consumers Distributing Co., Ltd., a major North American retail organization, and Folands, Inc., a Detroit based retail company.

In 1992, he founded David Castlegrant & Associates, a management and marketing consulting firm specializing in family-owned businesses. He has consulted with more than 200 profit and non-profit organizations in the US, Canada, Great Britain, and Russia.

Since 2007, the company has been niched in the army-navy surplus industry, where it is known internationally for producing the ANM Expo, a trade show for the industry that takes place in Las Vegas twice yearly. They also publish ST Magazine, a trade journal that supports independent retailers in the same industry.
