Athletic and Academic Scholarship

The role of the student-athlete at the collegiate level is significant and positive for the Cleary University campus community. Cleary University is an institution comprised of competitors – individuals who understand that to challenge oneself and to compete is to BETTER oneself. On the field of competition – as in everything we do – we strive to compete at the highest level and provide student-athletes with the opportunity to develop the leadership skills necessary to thrive in their respective careers and lives.

Athletic and Academic Excellence Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of each respective varsity sport coach, Cleary University academic eligibility criteria, and in compliance with the National Intercollegiate Athletic Association (N.A.I.A.).


Cleary University Alumni Legacy Scholarship

Dependents* and grandchildren of Cleary University graduates are eligible to receive a 20 percent grant toward tuition, after all other grants and scholarships have been applied. Students must be in a degree-seeking program, and they must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, and successfully complete each term to ensure continued scholarship eligibility.


CEO Scholarship

Cleary University partners with a number of businesses and organizations to foster continuous education and improvement. As a business partner, all eligible employees and their dependents* will receive a 50% tuition scholarship (CEO) towards a degree, after all other grants and scholarships have been applied. Students must meet Cleary University eligibility requirements and provide verification of employment at a partner organization annually. Cannot be combined with any other institutional aid.


Cougar Country Commitment

The Cougar Country Commitment (CCC) is a 25% tuition scholarship, after non-loan aid has ben applied, and Cleary University’s guarantee to provide an affordable tuition price to our non-traditional students, pursuing their degree. Scholarship may be combined, only with the UG non-traditional transfer scholarship (if applicable). Students must be in a degree-seeking program, and they must maintain the degree minimum acceptance cumulative GPA, and successfully complete each term to ensure continued scholarship eligibility.


Cougar Country Promise

The Cougar Country Promise (CCP) is Cleary University’s guarantee to provide an affordable tuition price to our students. The CCP is awarded to students based on their completed FAFSA, eligibility for the Michigan Achievement Scholarship and an EFC below 25000. See Cougar Country Promise for more details.


Courage and Public Service Scholarship

The Courage and Public Service scholarship is a 50% tuition discount, after non-loan aid has been applied, for first responders, emergency personnel, civic and municipal employees, clinical healthcare professionals, and educators. Dependents* and spouses of those serving in any of the above listed professions may be eligible for a 25% tuition discount after non-loan aid has been applied. See Courage and Service for more details. Scholarship may be combined with other Cleary University scholarships, not to exceed 50%.


DECA Scholarship

Cleary University offers DECA scholarships in the amount of $20,000, $10,000 and $4,000. All DECA scholarship recipients must meet the following requirements:

  • New, full-time undergraduate student
  • GPA of 2.5
  • Participated in DECA in high school
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from a student advisor
  • Continue to participate in DECA all four years at Cleary
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 at Cleary, reviewed annually in the spring
  • Remain a full-time student at Cleary
  • Demonstrate good campus citizenship

Students will be considered for one of three scholarship levels based on the following:

  • $20,000 ($5,000/year)
    • Student meets all of the requirements of the DECA scholarship.
    • Student has held a national officer position, or
    • Student has placed first at a national or international DECA competition.
  • $10,000 ($2,500/year)
    • Student meets all of the requirements of the DECA scholarship.
    • Students has held a state officer position, or
    • Student has advanced to a national or international competition.
  • $4,000 ($1,000/year)
    • Student meets all of the requirements of the DECA scholarship.

Dual Enrollment/Early College Scholarship

Student that have completed the Dual Enrollment or Early College programs through Cleary University while in high school may be eligible to receive a 30% tuition discount after all non-loan aid has been applied. Scholarship may be combined with other Cleary scholarships, not to exceed 50% of total tuition.


Lake Trust Foundation Scholarship(s)

Students have the power to do anything they aspire to, through a dynamic partnership between Lake Trust Credit Union and Cleary University. A limited number of life-changing full tuition scholarships for associate’s (two-year), bachelor’s (four-year) and master’s degree programs are available to qualified candidates. These highly coveted scholarships are awarded annually to eligible students who meet specific criteria through the Lake Trust Foundation and Cleary University to help them fulfill their career aspirations. Military Service Scholarship

This scholarship is available to veterans who have exhausted their VA benefits. The Military Service scholarship is a 50% tuition discount after all non-loan aid has been applied, including employer reimbursements that the student may receive. This scholarship is not valid with any other Cleary University scholarship. Student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 to remain eligible for this scholarship. Students must complete the FAFSA annually, and they must accept any grants and/or scholarships for which they may be eligible. Honorably discharged veterans are required to provide a copy of their DD214 to their Admissions representative to determine eligibility. Immediate family members of veterans who have exhausted their post 9-11 GI Bill benefits may also be eligible for the Military Service scholarship.


Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

New, incoming transfer students that were members of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) while attending their prior school may be eligible or up to $1,000 per year (for 2 years). Students interested in the Phi Theta Kappa scholarship should submit a letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff member from your prior institution that is familiar with your involvement with Phi Theta Kappa, as well as documentation that verifies current membership in good standing with PTK. Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 to remain eligible for this scholarship. Scholarship may be combined with other Cleary scholarships, not to exceed 50% of total tuition.


Transfer Scholarships

Cleary University offers Transfer scholarships for both our Traditional and Non-Traditional students. Eligible students are new, transferring students with at least 24 transfer credits applicable to an undergraduate degree. Traditional students are those students that graduated from high school within the last 27 months. Traditional students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours each semester to receive the Transfer scholarship. Transfer scholarships are awarded for the fall and spring semesters. See chart above for eligibility criteria for our $10,000; $7,500; $4,000 and $2,000 Traditional Transfer scholarships.

Non-traditional students are those that graduated from high school more than 27 month prior to enrolling at Cleary. Non-traditional students enrolling in fewer than 12 credit hours in a semester will have their Transfer scholarship prorated as follows:

  • 9+ credit hours receive a full semester award ($1,333)
  • 6-8 credit hours will receive $667 in that semester
  • 1-5 credit hours will not receive the Transfer scholarship for that semester

*A “dependent” is defined as being claimed on a parent’s tax return.


GRADUATE ADMISSIONS SCHOLARSHIPS

Cleary University Alumni Scholarship

Any Cleary University BBA graduates in good standing, are eligible to receive a 30% tuition scholarship, after all non-loan aid has been applied. This scholarship may not be combined with other Cleary scholarships. Students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA and successfully complete each term to continue to be eligible for the Alumni scholarship.


CEO Scholarship

The Scholarship Gazette

Keep updated on available local scholarships in Livingston County and Michigan by reading the most recent Scholarship Gazette, published by Hartland High School. To apply, follow directions in the Gazette. Watch for due dates and be sure to give up to two weeks time for others to complete any recommendations if required. 

Tips when searching for outside scholarships

Students looking for additional sources of funding to supplement their financial aid packages often apply for outside scholarships.  Financial aid consultants and online scholarship search companies are popular.  These companies can be very helpful, but it is important for students to understand how the process works so that they are not taken advantage of as they look for scholarships.  Some of the services offered by consulting companies can be provided by the financial aid office.  If you need help filling out your FAFSA or understanding different types of financial aid, the Financial Aid Office is here to help – free of charge!  Here are some tips to keep you safe while searching for those extra dollars:
