Cougar Wrestling to Host Summer Skills Camp July 24, grades 6-12

Cleary University wrestling coach Matt Santos has announced that the program will be hosting a summer skills camp next month.

The camp, which is open to anyone going into grades 6-12, will take place on Sunday, July 24, in Cleary’s Wellness Center (955 Grand Oaks Dr, Howell, MI 48843).  The cost is $110 per wrestler, and will run from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM, with lunch being provided to the wrestlers in between sessions.

Campers will get instruction from Michigan State University wrestlers Cam Caffey, Layne Malczewski, and Chase Saldate, with drills and coaching focusing on hand fighting, control ties, and setups to a takedown from the neutral, top, and bottom positions.  

  • Caffey is the 2022 U.S Open Champion, 2020 Big Ten Finalist, 4x NCAA National Qualifier, and 2019 Junior Greco World Team Member. 
  • Malczewski is a 3x NCAA National Qualifier, 3x Big Ten Placer, and MHSAA State Champion 
  • Saldate is a 2x NCAA National Qualifier, 2x Big Ten Placer, and CIF State Champion
