Cleary University welcomes new Provost and Executive Vice President

Alan Drimmer, PhD, president of Cleary University, is pleased to announce that Douglas Stein, PhD, CPA, CMA, CGMA, has been named the new Provost and Executive Vice President of Cleary, effective immediately.

Douglas Stein, PhD, CPA, CMA, CGMAAs the university’s Provost, he will provide leadership and guidance over the academic curriculum, retention, university policies and procedures, and accreditation, “to ensure Cleary continues to improve its educational experience for students, faculty and staff,” Dr. Drimmer reports. “Dr. Stein embraces a student-centered approach to learning, and he believes in a culture of transparency, accountability and collaboration,” he adds.

“He is passionate about encouraging and supporting students in their educational goals toward lifelong personal and professional success,” Dr. Drimmer adds.

“His track record of student achievement and retention, as well as new program development and quality assurance, is the right fit for Cleary,” he finds.

Dr. Stein has held leadership positions in senior academic affairs and academic operations at several higher education institutions including Colorado Technical University; South University in Savannah, Georgia; and Cardean University in Chicago, Illinois.

During this time, “through his strategic and operational leadership, Dr. Stein improved the student, faculty, programmatic and institutional life cycles at these three institutions,” Dr. Drimmer notes. “Dr. Stein effectively oversaw accreditation processes, academic governance and assessment, institutional effectiveness, academic and instructional policies, faculty management and support, faculty training and professional development, registrar operations, library services and academic budgeting. He also developed and implemented undergraduate and graduate programs, courses and certifications.

“I believe he is the ideal fit for Cleary University,” Dr. Drimmer announces.

Dr. Stein previously served as a tenure-track Assistant Professor at The University of Akron in Ohio and at Northern Illinois University. At these institutions, he developed undergraduate and graduate coursework in accounting information systems, information systems auditing and microcomputer applications. He also has a special interest in ongoing research in online education, education assessment, accounting information system technologies and professional ethics.

Dr. Stein earned his Doctorate of Philosophy in Business (Accounting) and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also completed a Master of Accounting Science, a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Northern Illinois University. Dr. Stein is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and a Chartered Global Management accountant (CGMA). He is a member of the American Accounting Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Faculty and staff who will report to Provost Stein include the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, the Dean of Graduate Studies and Adult Education, the Dean of Academic Operations, the Director of Instructional Design, the Associate Dean of Students, the Director of Institutional Effectiveness, academic advisors and the Registrar.

As Provost and Executive Vice President of Cleary University, Dr. Stein will report directly to University President Dr. Drimmer.
