The Torah and Old Testament Monotypes of Arthur Secunda.

Brief Book Summary: Between 1993 and 2007, Arthur Secunda, an internationally renowned artist, created approximately 140 monotypes illustrating verses of the Torah and Old Testament. Monotypes are original paintings created on a non-absorbent surface which subsequently are transferred to paper in a printing/pressing process. Over 130 of these monotypes have been acquired by the Arthur Secunda Museum at Cleary University, Howell, MI. This is a full-color catalog of the Secunda Biblical narrative monotypes in the Museum collection. This artwork and book were created in a collaborative effort by a Jew, a Christian, and a Muslim.

Déjà Vu

Catalog Raisonne of Arthur Secunda’s Graphic Works, 1948-2013 is a comprehensive, annotated listing of the artist’s prints bound in a splendid hardcover coffee-table book with over 400 beautiful pages. This 65-year chronology describes Arthur’s 340 limited-edition signed prints and reveals his artistic evolution from basic multi-lithographic techniques to sophisticated methods and processes. Each full-color print is reproduced on its own 11 x 11-inch page; with a detailed description of how, when, and where each was done.

In Arthur’s own words; “The goal of my personal accounts is to show the surprising circumstances that are often behind the conception of each piece, including the influences of worldwide travels, deep friendships and interactions with other artists, museums, and critics.”

Since art is both historical and biographical, the journey of a lifetime of graphic art creation may be seen as an on the road narrative of artistic development expanded by environment and chance encounters. Secunda has embraced the unexpected as normal, and by reading his words, one can literally experience how each piece of his art came to fruition.

Through personal interviews by museum director, Donna Stein, and penetrating critical articles by Edward Wall, Allison Hersh, and Nissa Torrents, an understanding of Secunda’s full career comes to life.
