Qualifying for Aid

Federal and state financial aid is available for most United States citizens and eligible non-citizens. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed to be considered for all types of financial aid (federal, state, and institutional) received while attending Cleary University.

  1. Apply for an FSA ID and password at studentaid.gov/fsa-id/sign-in/landing. Both the student and at least one parent (if the student is considered a dependent student) needs a FSA ID and password.
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa
  3. Enter 002246 as the school code for Cleary University on the FAFSA form.

For students planning to attend a Michigan college or university, the college or university listed as your first college choice will be the school the State of Michigan considers first when determining eligibility for state aid.

Once your FAFSA is complete, your college will use their Cost of Attendance (COA) to calculate how much financial aid a student is eligible for, based on the Student Aid Index (SAI) from their FAFSA. Very few students pay the full cost of attendance because most receive some type of financial aid.

Dates and Deadlines

Below are the key dates and deadlines for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Michigan financial aid programs:

FAFSA Deadlines:

  • 2024–2025 Academic Year:
    • FAFSA Submission Period: October 1, 2023 – June 30, 2025.
  • 2025–2026 Academic Year:
    • The 25-26 FAFSA is now open!
    • FAFSA Submission Deadline: June 30, 2026.

Michigan State Financial Aid Deadlines:

For most MI State Programs the deadline to submit your FAFSA in order to determine eligibility is June 30th, 2025

To be considered for the Michigan Competitive Scholarship and the Michigan Tuition Grant you must submit your application by July 1, 2025, midnight Central time.

Important Considerations:

  • Submitting your FAFSA as early as possible is recommended, as some financial aid programs have limited funds and operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • By adhering to these deadlines and applying promptly, you can maximize your eligibility for financial aid to support your educational goals.

What happens if I miss the deadlines?

If you miss deadlines, contact our Financial Aid Office to see what options are still available for you. Your chances of receiving aid will be much slimmer, and the aid is often lower. You may still be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant. If you miss the June 30th federal deadline, you’re no longer eligible to submit that year’s FAFSA form.

Estimating Costs

Use our Net Price Calculator to get an estimate for annual and term costs and how much aid you may be able to qualify for.

Cost of Attendance

The Cost of Attendance (COA) is the estimated annual cost of direct and indirect costs for a student to attend a college or university.

The COA is not what the student will have to pay directly to the school, it is an estimate of costs that are meant to be used to help families plan their own college budget. Enrollment level, number of completed credits, major field of study, and housing choices all determine individual costs.

If you’re attending school at least half time, the COA is the estimate of:

  • Direct Costs (Billed by the University):
    • Tuition and fees
  • Indirect Costs (Varies based on personal need):
    • Cost of housing and food (or living expenses);
    • Books, course materials, supplies, and equipment;
    • Transportation expenses;
    • Loan fees (excluding any loan fees for non-federal student loans);
    • Miscellaneous expenses (including a reasonable amount for the documented cost of a personal computer);
    • Allowance for childcare or other dependent care;
    • Costs related to a disability;
    • Costs of obtaining a license, certification, or a first professional credential; and
    • Reasonable costs for eligible study abroad programs.
